blogging the bog cranberries

harvesting the wild today
as november 9th weather co-operates,
two stones throw from lake superior.

red berries in standing water,
probably enough vitamin C in this bog
to nourish the entire hemisphere

  1. Wading in the bog?
Are these the same as high bush cranberries or a cousin?

  2. highbush & low bush cranberries, unrelated but taste nearly the same. After a hard frost you seek them out, bring rubber boots so you won't bogdown. eat fresh or boil w/ maple syrup to taste.

  3. Fresh cranberries AND maple syrup - like cranberry sauce but using maple, I like that idea.
Lately pure cran juice (not cut with apple or pear) is my favorite drink. Do you have a photo of you wading in the floating(?) red berries?

  4. Cranberries make the world a happier place; especially when you pick them yourself.
